Grief, Loss & Bereavement

Bereavement and grief are fundamental parts of life. At some time or other, we all have to face loss, whether someone close, a job, a pet, a way of life or the prospect of our own death.

There has been a great deal of discussion in recent years of how to deal with grief and loss. The truth of the matter is that we have been doing so for thousands of years, and will do for millennia to come. The grieving process appears to be as natural as birth and death itself. It is if we have been given a way to cope with loss, because loss is a fundamental part of life and living.

What happens if we don’t grieve?

Give sorrow words; the grief that
does not speak
Whispers the o’er fraught heart and
bids it break
Macbeth (IV. Iii) - Shakespeare

Shakespeare recognised the need to grieve, the need to go through this personal journey. But what if we don’t grieve? Is it possible, for us not to go through the process of grieving? In some cases, a person might pass through the grieving process so quickly that others do not recognise that fact.

Experience of loss means that we move through a grief process. We can move through that process so quickly, that we may not realise that we have in fact done so, or at least, to outside observers, there may not be signs that we have done so.

What is apparent is that it is unhealthy to not move through the grief process; to get stuck along the way can produce adverse symptoms and reactions.

Sometimes, we do get stuck along the way. We find it hard to let go, to accept and move on. If this has happened to you, if you feel you are stuck in the past, finding it hard to get your life moving again, please call me on 01933 626253 or 07972057309 to arrange an appointment.
